About Capybara
Capybaras are the World's largest living rodents. Although they come from South America, they became extremely popular in Japan. Capybaras can be found in zoos where people come to pet them. There's also a toy character Kapibara-san (カピバラさん) created by Banpresto - you can buy almost anything with it in Japan (but in fact only in Japan because they are for sale only there). Capybaras are very calm and relaxed animals, I recommend viewing beautiful films made by fans on youtube. Some people keep them ocassionally as pets e.g. in USA, but personally I think this must be hard to do because Capybara needs water to live (they're semi-aquatic animals). Nonetheless these people seem to be very happy with their unusual pets. If you're looking for more information on Capybaras, please visit wikipedia or try some of my links below.

Capy-film from Vienna Zoo
I made this film with my cell phone while visiting Vienna zoo. It shows a capybara lying in its hut and eating some grass. Capy wakes up and then has problems with one of its leg, I think it could be because of bad position while resting. Or maybe it was an old capybara with some health problems? The film shows where capybara lives in this zoo, you can see 2 more capybaras from a distance on the left. You can also hear me speaking polish - I'm making a comment on the situation. Pretty bad quality but I think real capybara fans can still watch it :>

There is definitely something wrong with his leg. Maybe he needs to eat more potatoes! I'm glad there are capybaras in Vienna: Vienna is at about the same latitude as Seattle, and it gets cold here!
ReplyDeleteOh, at first I wasn't sure if there's something wrong with this leg, but it looked bad. Why do you think he should eat more potatoes? Is it possible that he suffers from a lack of vitamin C? Thank you very much for your comment, this is the first one on this blog :-)
