About Capybara

Capybaras are the World's largest living rodents. Although they come from South America, they became extremely popular in Japan. Capybaras can be found in zoos where people come to pet them. There's also a toy character Kapibara-san (カピバラさん) created by Banpresto - you can buy almost anything with it in Japan (but in fact only in Japan because they are for sale only there). Capybaras are very calm and relaxed animals, I recommend viewing beautiful films made by fans on youtube. Some people keep them ocassionally as pets e.g. in USA, but personally I think this must be hard to do because Capybara needs water to live (they're semi-aquatic animals). Nonetheless these people seem to be very happy with their unusual pets. If you're looking for more information on Capybaras, please visit wikipedia or try some of my links below.

Capybara time

Today I want to share a funny japanease song about capybaras. I found it about 2 weeks ago. 'カピバラタイム' (capybara time) is performed by capybara breeding officers from The Nagasaki Bio Park - I learned it from my japanease speaking friend. The Nagasaki Bio Park is famous for having one of the biggest capybara families in Japan. The song is about life of capybaras there, as far as I translated it myself it begins with something about their favourite food ^^; anyway how could it begin with something else? Apart from being just funny the video can be used for practicing Japanease thanks to the subs. Especially for capybara fans... I know it sounds ridiculous but singing such simple songs in foreign language is helpful when you start learning. If you liked the song, here you can listen to it again (better quality ;D):

Plus, I have some capybara photos from The Riga Zoo and The San Francisco Zoo - I'll share them with you next time.

Capybara Tour 2012: Wrocław

Shortly after the Valetine's Day I had an opportunity to continue the Capybara Tour, which had begun last year. This time I visited the Wrocław Zoo with my boyfriend. It was one of the last days of winter, quite warm and sunny. We found capybaras at the elephant pavillon, where they're kept during the winter.

There are 2 capybaras at Wrocław Zoo, both female. As you can see, they're sitting in different cages and and they look sad.

The older one in the photo above.

And the younger one. We took more photos of this young capy because we had better light there. That's why we have only one good photo of the older one. I'm happy I could see them, but I was hoping for better living conditions there. It was not dirty, quite warm inside, but I'm still wondering why they don't live together.

Capybara scratching it's back and cleaning the fur.

I think the last photo is the best one. We made one video too.

In general they looked healthy, but they were bored. You can see this in their eyes. I'm sure it's better during the spring/summer season. We saw the South America Park at the Zoo and this is where capybaras live when Winter is over ;-) Let's hope for warm spring days, so that capies at the Wrocław Zoo will go outside!

Capy Valentine's Day!

Here are my hand-made Valentine's Day cupcakes with kapibara-san and android. I've been preparing them with my friend Anne the whole day for my Sweetheart (^t ^ \. This is just a part of our work, the rest of the cakes was made for Anne's boyfriend and mom. We really baked a lot of them and I had a wonderful day at kitchen. I'm not good at making sweets but with Anne's help I could offer something special to my Valentine ;-) I'm very happy. The green cream and decorations were made by me, but recipe is not mine, we prepared it together. Enjoy the photos and belive me - they taste as good as they look!

Special B-Day party!

It's been another time I'm celebrating B-day with my bf (who was born on the same day) and this year we had a very special B-day cake. Since we're both fans of kapibara-san we decided to have a kapibara-san cake. I know this sounds funny, but I found a confectionery which made it for us. The problem was that people here don't know what kapibara-san is, so we were asked to bring one of our plushies. In the end we decided to bring only some photos of kapi and as you can see below it was enough to make a good looking kapi-cake ;-))) It was so delicious and our guests had so much fun at the party. We had one special guest this year. On our birthday before the party my bf had a meeting and one of his friends brought him back home. We asked him to stay. He liked the whole idea of our cake even though he didn't know kapibara-san before. But the best thing about our special guest is that he had a camera and we could make photos of the cake. There were some problems with our camera so he saved the situation ;-) we're very thankful for that!

Capybara Mode

It's the second day of Christmas and I'm still in Capybara Mode... I should continue writing an essay for a toxicology course but I'm not in the mood for it. The plan is to do it after today's Christmas dinner with family so I hope to find an inspiration. And so many things to learn besides. The weather is awful this year so I probably won't lose a chance for a holiday walk. Capy Christmas for those who continue celebrating today (^t ^\ P.S. It's my new Christmas tree and my big kapibara-san looking at it

Capybara planking.

Capybara planking. by caseorganic
Capybara planking., a photo by caseorganic on Flickr.

According to Wikipedia, "Planking" (or the "Lying Down Game") is an activity consisting of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location. The hands must touch the sides of the body and having a photograph of the participant taken and posted on the Internet is an integral part of the game. Here we have an example of planking with kapibarasan. I haven't heard of a game like this before, cool photo though.

Capylife underwater

Today I found some videos with swimming capybaras. The channel is called capylife. Capybaras relax in big pool with very clean water and few fish. You can see them staying in vertical position for a while and then they dive and stay under water for some time. I recommend viewing more vids from this yt channel / ^ t^)
